International Regulations

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations' specialized agency responsible for improving maritime safety and preventing pollution from ships. IMO conventions provide the means for international uniformity after they are adopted by international conferences. Canadian accessions respecting IMO conventions are generally, but not exclusively, enabled by Canada Shipping Act legislation.
